Belly Band, Belly Wrap or Belly Binder
A postpartum wrap, postpartum belly binding, postpartum belt, or post-pregnancy belly band are all names for a garment women wear around their abdomen after giving birth. Specifically, to give them extra support.
Styles range from firm abdominal binders to options that offer gentle compression. As the Partum Place band is an adjustable, lightweight wrap, you can choose a fit that feels supportive without pulling it tight.
Light Compression Where You Need It After Birth
After giving birth, your abdominal muscles and lower back may feel less supported during everyday movement.
Our postpartum belly band wraps around your abdomen and pelvis to provide light, adjustable support. It may make standing, walking or holding your baby much more comfortable while your body heals. The band may also ease the feeling of pressure around the incision area after a caesarean birth.
The aim is to keep you as comfortable as possible. Specifically, you should be able to breathe and move normally, without the band digging in or creating downward pressure on your pelvic floor. That said, you can always loosen or remove it if it's causing you pain. Read more about why a postpartum band helps.
Wearing It After a C-Section
A postpartum belly band for C-section recovery should sit comfortably around your abdomen without pressing directly on an unhealed incision. Feel free to adjust it as your comfort level changes throughout the day. However, if it rubs, traps moisture or increases pain near the wound, take it off and seek advice from your midwife or doctor.
When to Start and How Long to Wear It
There is no set start date or length of time for wearing the postpartum belly band. So, you should do what feels right for you.
Some people want abdominal support in the early days after a vaginal delivery or C-section. Others prefer to wait. If you have recently had surgery, are concerned about a wound, or are experiencing pelvic floor symptoms, your midwife or doctor can advise you on the best course of action.
A good tactic is to wear the band for extended periods when it feels useful, but take it off when it feels uncomfortable. If you're in doubt, a women’s health physiotherapist or osteopath can advise you on fit, wear time, and exercises suited to your recovery.
Fabric, Fit and Sizing
The band feels soft and stretchy because it is made from breathable polyester and spandex. Additionally, it has an adjustable elastic that lets you change the fit without relying on excessive compression.
Choose Medium for sizes 8–12 or Large for sizes 14–18. If you are not sure which is best for you, check out this size guide. Whichever you pick should feel supportive around your waist and abdomen, never restrictive or painful.
What It Will Not Do
A belly wrap will not flatten your postpartum belly. It also will not return you to your pre-pregnancy size or rebuild core strength on its own. The garment is designed to provide comfort and support. It is not a waist trainer or a treatment for diastasis recti.
Take it off immediately if you experience abdominal separation, pain, or pelvic floor symptoms.
Pairs Well With
The belly band pairs well with our postpartum C-section recovery kit, which combines a support band with disposable underwear and scar strips.
It can also complement our C-section scar strips at a later stage. Once the incision is fully closed and your clinician confirms it is ready for scar care.
